I can never see your face. Even though there's always a sort of deep violent glow that permeates this place, even though a fire is always lit within the circle of rocks near me, all I see is your shadowed slender figure sitting about ten feet away from me.  You're wearing very non-descript clothing...maybe jeans? A sweater? Hard to tell in this dim light. Your hair is completely covering your face. I don't know who lit the fire. I don't know how long I've been here.  I feel like it's been years, but it could have been no longer than a day. The sun's position doesn't seem to have changed, but this doesn't seem wrong to me,

   Both figures sit in a dimly lit room, the only light coming from the thin rays of sunlight drifting in through the translucent curtains. She knits and he reads. Her fingers move anxiously, stumbling over each other, yet not making a mistake.  He is only half-concentrating on the words on the page in front of him.    He can barely see her face, the room has gotten so dark.    She can barely hear him breathing.    Both of them know their relationship is ending, yet neither one of them has the courage to actually end it.  The silences keep on stretching longer

More and more frequently, I was seeing them everywhere. I’d see young men and women walking arm-in-arm down the main streets of the city, talking, laughing, yet with their eyes looking strangely sunken in the street lights. Oftentimes you’d see groups of two or three huddled closely together, arms around each other, appearing to be deep in some secretive conversation of the utmost importance.
